Two questions come up on almost every route and are tedious to work out by hand: what the government fees add up to for a family, and whether time spent outside the UK has breached the continuous-residence limit for settlement. The tools here answer those two from the published rules. The cost calculator draws its figures from the same fee table as the fees page, so a change to one is a change to both; the absence calculator applies the 180-days-in-any-12-months rule the way the Home Office counts it.
Both give general information, not a decision on your case. They do not assess eligibility, and they cannot take account of exemptions or discretion that the rules leave to caseworkers. Where the result matters, check it against the guide and the rule the guide cites.
